A handsome two-story lodge replaces
the original Rio Piedra plantation house, which, like
many of its contemporaries, was destroyed by fire.
The new lodge, however, offers updated amenities that
both recall and enhance the casual elegance of antebellum
structures. Like the breezy porches that often served
as gathering spots in years past, Rio Piedra’s
covered deck invites visitors to take their ease on
rocking chairs or around tables as they sip drinks and
enjoy the music of whippoorwills as dusk descends.
The gracious living room, appointed
in leather furniture, is a study in warmth and comfort
with its English antique furnishings, hunting prints,
game table, river-stone fireplace and oriental rugs covering
100-year-old heart pine floors.
After a challenging day hunting woods-wise
quail, guests gather for drinks in the cozy
comfort of Rio Piedra’s two-story lodge.
The lodge is located 300 yards from the Flint
River. Each bedroom has a private bath.
Nearby cabins, similar in style and accouterments,
offer additional accommodations for hunting
companions or small groups. Hunters can
hone their shooting skills on Rio Piedra's
sporting clays or purchase new clothing,
shells or shooting accessories at the pro
shop.
